A scalpel is a winged surgical instrument used to cut into the body. This is a very sharp tool and comes in various sizes for different cuts and surgeries. Scalpels are often used as a symbol of surgery, but actually they do not play a major role any longer in surgery because now in the medical life, laser is too common.
Today, scalpels are most commonly disposable since they are more cost effective and safer. Reusable scalpels have to be sharpened regularly. Reprocessing often leads to injuries due to careless handling. All these problems including resterilization can be avoided by the use of rather cheap disposable knives.And these size is that commonly a 13-gauge, 12-inch needle may be used.
